Taxi law lawyer
Summoned to the police court for a taxi offence?
Have you received a summons to the police court (politierechtbank) for an alleged breach of the taxi regulations, a problem with your taxi licence or a dispute concerning a rank taxi, street taxi, Uber driving, a taxi roof light, a price list or a tariff card?
Taxi drivers and taxi companies
As a sub-specialisation within traffic law, the firm also assists taxi drivers and taxi companies.
Are you a taxi driver or the operator of a taxi company, do you drive a rank taxi or street taxi, or do you work via Uber, Bolt or another ride-hailing platform? Then you know that the taxi regulations are particularly strict and that checks by the police and inspection services are becoming more and more frequent.
Our law firm has experience in cases involving the taxi regulations and assists taxi drivers and taxi companies prosecuted before the police court for alleged breaches of the regulations.
We act before courts throughout Belgium, including those in Ghent, Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Mechelen, Kortrijk, Dendermonde, Oudenaarde, Turnhout, Hasselt, Leuven, Sint-Niklaas, Aalst and elsewhere.
Common breaches of the taxi regulations
Taxi drivers can be summoned to the police court for matters including:
- Taxi licences
- Taxi roof lights
- Tariff cards
- Price display
- Identification details
- Documents in the vehicle
- Compliance with taxi regulations
- Traffic offences
- Alcohol and drug checks
The regulations are technical and change regularly. The taxi regulations provide for heavy fines and other penalties when breaches are established. For that reason, do not hesitate to contact us in good time, so that we can analyse your case and advise and assist you properly. As a law firm, we are also fully aware of how important your driving licence and your work are.

Rank taxis and street taxis: different rules
The regulations distinguish between the rank taxi (standplaatstaxi), a taxi that works from official taxi ranks, and the street taxi (straattaxi), a taxi that may not use those ranks: the rules for a rank taxi differ from those for a street taxi. Every case requires thorough knowledge of both traffic law and the taxi regulations, and is assessed individually and carefully.
Legal expenses cover may apply
In many cases, your legal expenses insurance pays our firm's fees, so you have nothing to pay yourself. We deal with your insurer on your behalf.
